Almost every day we come across situations in which we have to make decisions one way or another. Choice, we are given to believe, is a right. But for a good many people in the world, in rich and poor countries, choice is a luxury, something wonderful but hard to get, not a right. And for those who think they are exercising their right to make choices, the whole system is merely an illusion, a false idea created by companies and advertisers hoping to sell their products.

The endless choice gives birth to anxiety in people’s lives. Buying something as basic as a coffee pot is not exactly simple. Easy access to a wide range of everyday goods leads to a sense of powerlessness in many people, ending in the shopper giving up and walking away, or just buying an unsuitable item (商品) that is not really wanted. Recent studies in England have shown that many electrical goods bought in almost every family are not really needed. More difficult decision-making is then either avoided or trusted into the hands of the professionals, lifestyle instructors, or advisors.

It is not just the availability of the goods that is the problem, but the speed with which new types of products come on the market. Advances in design and production help quicken the process. Products also need to have a short lifespan so that the public can be persuaded to replace them within a short time. The typical example is computers, which are almost out-of-date once they are bought. This indeed makes selection a problem. Gone are the days when one could just walk with ease into a shop and buy one thing; no choice, no anxiety.

    1. What does the author try to argue in Paragraph 1?

    A. The practice of choice is difficult.

    B. The right of choice is given but at a price.

    C. Choice and right exist at the same time.

    D. The exercise of rights is a luxury.

    2. Why do more choices of goods give rise to anxiety?

    A. People are likely to find themselves overcome by business persuasion.

    B. Shoppers may find themselves lost in the broad range of items.

    C. Companies and advertisers are often misleading about the rage of choice.

    D. Professionals find it hard to decide on a suitable product.

    3. By using computers as an example, the author wants to prove that ______.

    A. products of the latest design flood the market

    B. competitions are fierce in high-tech industry

    C. everyday goods need to be replaced often

    D. advanced products meet the needs of people

    4. What is this passage mainly about?

    A. The opinions on people’s right in different countries.

          B. The problems about the availability of everyday goods.

    C. The helplessness in purchasing decisions.

    D. The variety of choices in modern society.

It was the end of my first day as a waitress in a busy New York restaurant. My cap had gone away, and my feet hurt. The loaded plates I carried seemed to be heavier and heavier. Tired and discouraged, I didn’t seem able to do anything right. As I made out a check for a family with several children who had changed their ice-cream order a dozen times, I was ready to stop. Then the father smiled at me as he handed me my tip. “Well done,” he said, “you’ve looked after us really well.” Suddenly my tiredness disappeared. I smiled back, and later, when the manager asked me how I’d liked my first day, I said, “Fine!” Those few words of praise had changed everything.

Praise is like sunlight to human spirit; we cannot flower and grow without it. And yet, most of us are only too ready to apply to others the cold criticism, but are unwilling to give out fellows the warm sunshine of praise. Perhaps that is why one word of praise can bring such pleasure.

It’s strange how chary (谨慎的) we are about praising. Perhaps it’s because few of us know how to accept it.It’s especially rewarding to give praise in areas in which effort generally goes unnoticed. An artist gets admired for a glorious picture, a cook for a perfect meal. But do you ever tell your laundry manager how pleased you are when the shirts are done just right? In fact, to give praise costs the giver nothing but a moment’s thought and a moment’s effort.

    1. Which of the following can’t describe the writer’s situation before she got her tip?

           A. She was confident     B. She was busy.           C. She was sorry.          D. She was tired.

    2. According to the passage, which of the following is least likely to be given praise?

    A. An artist                   B. A cook                     C. A laundry manager    D. A waitress

    3. What is the best title of the passage?

    A. Why Do You Praise Others?                          B. Why do You Criticize Others?

    C. Don't Criticize Others!                                  D. Be Generous to Give Others Praise

It was Mother’s day morning last year and I was doing my shopping at our local supermarket with my five-year-old son, Tenyson. As we were leaving, we found that only minutes earlier an elderly woman had fallen over at the entrance and had hit her head on the concrete. Her husband was with her, but there was blood everywhere and the woman was embarrassed and clearly in shock. Walking towards the scene, Tenyson became very upset about what had happened to the couple. He said to me, “Mum, its not much fun falling over in front of everyone.”

At the front of the supermarket a charity (慈善) group had set up a stand selling cooked sausages and flowers to raise funds. Tenyson suggested that we should buy the lady a flower. “It will make her feel better, “he said. I was amazed that he’d come up with such a sweet idea. So we went over to the flower seller and asked her if we could buy a flower for the lady to cheer her up. “Just take it,” she replied. “I can’t take your money for such a wonderful gesture.”

By now paramedics (救援人员) had arrived, and were attending the injured woman. As we walked up to her, my son became intimidated by all the blood and medical equipment. He said he was just too scared to go up to her.

Instead I gave the flower to the woman’s husband and told him, “My son was very upset for your wife and wanted to give her this flower to make her feel better.”

At that, the old man started crying and said, “thank you so much, you have a wonderful son. Happy Mother’s Day to you.” The man then bent down and gave his wife the flower, telling her who it was from. Though badly hurt and shaken, the old lady looked up at Tenyson with love in her eyes and gave him a little smite.

    1. What does the author intend to tell us.

    A. One can never be too careful.

    B. Tenyson’s idea of buying a flower gained his mother’s support.

    D. The elderly woman was moved to tears by Tenyson’s gesture.

    3. The underlined word intimidated in the third paragraph probably means “        ”

        A. frightened            B. astonished            C. struck                 D. excited

    4. What would be the best title for the passage?

    A. Mothers Day

    B. Flower Power

    C. An Accidental injury

    D. An Embarrassing Moment

I decided to ski to the North Pole. It was after I saw an advertisement in a newspaper looking for people to join a team to ski 350 miles to the North Pole. Back in 1996, there had never been a woman from the UK who had accomplished this challenge. I wondered what it would be like to survive in temperatures cold enough to freeze your flesh in seconds, so I sent off for the application form.

The application form full of pictures of male explores arrived. The words “Are you man enough for the ultimate(极限的)challenge?” made me angry and even more determined to get on the team.

Over 500 individuals applied for a place in the team, and the selection process included physical and psychological tests designed to pick the best group. In one test, there was a huge rope ladder we had to climb, and I froze at the top because I have a fear of heights. I thought my hopes were fading as most other applicants sailed past, leaving me behind. But two others helped me over, and later I found out that the organizers were not looking for amazing individuals, but great team players, and this moment had shown them who would take care of others in the team.

I had revealed(显示)my weakness, and in a place like the Arctic, you have to be yourself, as there is nowhere to hide. These personalities of asking for help and showing weakness are necessary for women to master.I realized that by being myself, I could succeed. I was selected for the team. I realized that I could achieve more than I ever imagined — more importantly, by sharing my story with others, I could inspire them to take a step into the new world and reveal more of their abilities.

1.How did the author react on seeing the advertisement?
A.She got cross.                                              B.She was determined.
C.She got frightened.                                       D.She was hesitating.
2.What did the organizers view as the most important in the selection of new hands?
    A.Personal quality.                                          B.Individual-ability.
C.Spirit of teamwork.                                      D.Courage to challenge.
3.What does the author think of women’s showing weakness?
    A.Beneficial.                B.Shameful.                 C.Merciful.                  D.Disturbing.
4.What’s the intention of the author in writing this passage?
A.To inspire us to prepare for our future goal.
B.To advise women how to turn to others.
C.To make suggestions to her team members.
D.To encourage people to explore the unknown.

Researcher Ramon Llopis of the University of Valencia is a member of the international group behind Football Research in an Enlarged Europe (FREE), the aim of which is to develop a better understanding of football as a social and cultural phenomenon in Europe. The starting point is the “strong belief that football has important things to say about Europe and its citizens”.

Llopis tells us that the research points to football as “an important presence in the daily lives of many Europeans. Even people who are not particularly interested in the sport cannot avoid the discussions it creates regardless of age, class and region.” He adds that “football is more than an activity which is done for enjoyment. It increases a sense of collective identity (集体认同).”

Football is a topic of exchange and conversation between Europeans of different ages and social classes. Based on the surveys carried out in the early stages of the project, 63.3%of people who call themselves football fans have chatted about football with someone from another European country in the past twelve months, 70%of football fans watch matches and summaries from leagues (联赛) outside of their country of origin, and 53.4% habitually follow the results and news from other European leagues on the Internet and social media.

So, rather than consider professional football as an economic activity or a healthy activity for both players and fans, public authorities should be aware of its huge socio-cultural impact. They should also pay attention to the increasing bad feeling surrounding football as a result of its commercialization (商业化), since it is causing many to turn away from the game.

1.What can we learn about FREE from Paragraph 1?

A.It studies the impact of football on world culture.

B.It educates the public about the history of football.

C.It brings together researchers from several countries.

D.It is a project carried out by the University of Valencia.

2.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?

A.The history of football.                                 B.The power of football.

C.The growth of football.                                 D.The standard of football.

3.How does the author explain that football is a big part of Europeans' conversation?

A.By using research findings.                           B.By providing examples

C.By telling true stories.                                                                      D.By following the order of time.

4.What’s the author’s attitude to the future of football in Europe?

    A.Hopeful.                   B.Uncertain.                 C.Satisfied.                  D.Worried.

I had a picnic one day with my sister. We both like to ride her motorcycle and that day we rode it to the nearest park. We bought some coffee and cakes, and then we enjoyed our food. Within a few hours, the sky changed and looked ready for a heavy rain. We packed everything and were ready to go. My sister, who was sitting on a bench then, suddenly was very still and couldn't talk to me. She couldn't move. Her eyes were rolling and she was about to lose consciousness(知觉). I have completely forgotten the name of an old lady who was a customer on my paper route when I was a twelve-year-old boy in Marinette, Wisconsin back in 1954.

On a mindless Saturday afternoon, a friend and I were throwing rocks onto the roof of the old lady’s house in her backyard. The object of our play was to observe how the rocks changed to missiles as they rolled to the roofs’ edge and shot out into the yard like comets falling from the sky.

I found myself a perfectly smooth rock. The stone was too smooth, however, so it slipped from my hand as I let it go and headed straight for a small window on the old lady’s back porch. At the sound of fractured glass,we ran away very fast.

I was scared about getting caught that first night. However, a few days later, when I was sure that I  hadn’t been discovered, I started to feel guilty for her misfortune.

I made up my mind that I would save my paper delivery money, and in three weeks I had the seven dollars that I calculated would cover the cost of her window. I put the money in an envelope with a note explaining that I was sorry for breaking her window.

I waited  until it was dark, snuck up to the old lady’s house, and  put the envelope through the letter slot in her door.

The next day,I handed the old lady  her paper and was able to return the warm smile that I was receiving from her. She thanked me for the paper and said,“Here,I have something for you.” It was a  bag of cookies. I thanked her and began to eat the cookies as I continued my route.

After several cookies, I felt an envelope and pulled it out of the bag. When I opened the envelope, I was astonished. Inside was the seven dollars and a short note that said, “I’m proud of you.”

I start every summer with the best of intentions: to attack one big book from the past, a classic that I was supposed to have read when young and ambitious. Often the pairings of books and settings have been purely accidental: Moby Dick on a three-day cross-country train trip; The Magic Mountain in a New England beachside cottage with no locks on the doors, no telephones or televisions in the rooms, and little to do beyond row on the salt pond. Attempting The Man Without Qualities on a return to Hawaii, my native state, however, was less fruitful: I made it through one and a quarter volumes (), then decided that I'd got the point and went swimming instead.

But this summer I find myself at a loss. I'm not quite interested in Balzac, say, or Tristram Shandy. There's always War and Peace, which I've covered some distance several times, only to get bogged down in the "War" part, set it aside for a while, and realise that I have to start over from the beginning again, having forgotten everyone's name and social rank. How appealing to simply fall back on a favourite—once more into The Waves or Justine, which feels almost like cheating, too exciting and too much fun to properly belong in serious literature.

And then there's Stendhal's The Red and the Black, which happens to be the name of my favourite cocktail (鸡尾酒) of the summer, created by Michael Cecconi at Savoy and Back Forty. It is easy to drink, and knocking back three or four seems like such a delightful idea. Cecconi's theory: "I take whatever's fresh at the green market and turn it into liquid." The result is a pure shot of afternoon in the park, making one feel cheerful and peaceful all at once, lying on uncut grass with eyes shut, sun beating through the lids...

    1. What can we infer about the author from the first paragraph?

    A.He enjoys reading when travelling.

    B.He shows talents for literature.

C.He has a cottage in New England.

    A.Get confused.

    B.Make no progress .

    C.Be interrupted.

    D.Be carried away.

3.Why does the author say reading his favourite books feels like cheating?

    A.He finishes them quickly.

B.He has read them many times before.

    C.He barely understands them.

    D.He should read something serious.

4.What can be a suitable title for the text?

A.To Read or Not to Read

When times get tough, we all look for ways to cut back. When we’re hungry, we eat at home instead of going out. We take buses instead of taxis. And we wear our old designer jeans just a few months longer. With college expenses at all-time highs, high school students are eager to do anything to cut the cost of a university education.

One cost-cutting proposal is to allow college students to get a bachelor’s degree in three years instead of four. Educational institutions have been actively exploring ways to make the learning process more efficient. But there’s a question: Would the quality of undergraduate education suffer? Few US universities have formally approved a “three-year degree” model.

I doubt that mainstream North American colleges will carry out a three-year curriculum(课程) any time soon. For one thing, most universities already allow highly qualified students to graduate early by testing out of certain classes and obtaining a number of college credits. In addition, at famous universities, the committee who determine which courses are required and which courses are electives (选修的) are unlikely to suddenly “throw out” one quarter of the required credits. Professors will resist “diluting (稀释)” the quality of the education they offer.

In my opinion, a quality four-year education is always superior to a quality three-year education. A college education requires sufficient (充分的) time for a student to become skilled in their major and do coursework in fields outside their major. It is not a good idea to water down education, any more than it’s not a good idea to water down medicine. If we want to help students find their way through university, we should help them understand early on what knowledge and skills they need to have upon graduation. We should allow students to test out of as many courses as possible. We should give them a chance to earn money as interns(实习生)in meaningful part-time jobs that relate to their university studies, such as the five-year co-op program at Northeastern University.

    1. What does the underline phrase “cut back” mean in the first paragraph?

    A. to return to normal

    B. to reduce cost

    C. to make things easy

    D. to earn money

    2. In most US universities, ________.

    A. college students are offered the co-op program.

    B. electives’ credits make up one quarter of the required credits.

    C. the “three-year degree”model appeals to most of the professors.

    D. some excellent students can graduate ahead of time.

    3. According to the passage, we can infer that________.

    A. the author is a professor of a famous university.

    B. the author thinks the cost of a university education is too high for people to afford.

    C. the author considers the university education quality very important.

    D. the author pays special attention to the all-round development of college students.

    4. Which of the following can be the best title?

    A. It’s time to shorten the learning process

    B. Best learning takes place over time

    C. University education should be watered down

    D. College education calls for reform

I am traveling home. It is bitterly cold and snowy, but the warm train is right on time. I feel pleasantly satisfied as I look out at the rush hour traffic on the motorway. I feel more satisfied as the smell of fresh coffee announces the arrival of the drinks service. Swiss friends often tell me, proudly, that their rail service is the best in the world, but recently, one experience has proved that the great Swiss love affair with their railway has turned a little sour.

It all began with the decision to end ticket sales on trains. One cold morning I arrived at my local station only to find that the ticket machine was broken. No matter, I thought, I have got a smart phone, and I hurriedly set about buying my ticket that way. This was not as easy as I had expected, busying myself between credit card and phone with freezing cold fingers, but, by the time I got on the train to Geneva I had an e-ticket and I proudly showed it to the conductor. Unfortunately she told me that my ticket was not valid. Several weeks later a letter arrived from Swiss railways together with a fine

    190 francs($210).

The good people there tell me the formal payment for my ticket from my credit card company arrived four minutes after my train left the station. That means, they say, that I bought my ticket on the train--and that is strictly prohibited

Swiss railways say their policy is designed to protect honest ticket-paying passengers, but a quick look at their balance sheet suggests something else. The company is making about $2 million a month from fines.

Although train travel is still popular, those seats do not feel as comfortable; the coffee does not smell quite so good--because Swiss railways have lost, for now anyway, something far more precious than $2 million a month: good  relations with their customers.

    1. What can we learn from paragraph 1?

    A. The Swiss trains usually come late.

    B. Traffic on the motorway goes smoothly.

    C. The author hates traveling on the Swiss train.

    D. The author is generally pleased with the Swiss rail service.

    2. Why did the conductor say that the author's e-ticket was invalid?

    A. It was purchased online.

    B. If was paid for after the train’s departure.

    C. It was purchased on a ticket machine.

    D. It was paid on a smart phone.

    3. What does the author want to show by telling the experience?

    A. The fine was unfair.

    B. The conductor was impolite

    C. E-tickets are getting popular.

    D. Credit cards can be inconvenient.

    4. What does the author think of the new policy of Swiss railways?

    A. It attracts more people to travel by train.

    B. It makes the company lose a lot of money.

    C. It damages company-customer relations.

    D. It protects honest ticket-paying passengers

My friend Jason and I wanted to do something to help other people who are less fortunate and help us grow at the same time. After we decided that we would volunteer in Nepal,I did some research on the Internet and I found Volunteer Nepal and felt strongly that it was the right choice for us.

While making our plans,Jason and I realized that others might like the opportunity to be a part of our experience. So before leaving for Nepal,we asked the people we know whether they would be interested in donating(捐赠)cash or goods to Nepal Orphans(孤儿)Home.

One friend, whose family owns a chain called Drake Supermarket, told others about it. His effort paid off. We received donations that filled 29 boxes with sporting goods, toys, coloring books, pencils, children's books, and more. The boxes were later taken to Drake's warehouse where I prepared them for shipment. Drake agreed to ship them to Nepal for free.

The boxes had arrived at the Volunteer House when we arrived there. The next day,Jason and I unpacked the boxes. The children from the orphanages lined up and were each able to choose a gift. This process took about an hour, but the looks on their faces and the happiness that we saw in their eyes made it one of the best days of our life.

We visited the orphanages there in the following days. Being with the children at the orphanages was both sad andwonderful. I'm sure that anyone who has volunteered will understand what I mean by that. My experience as a volunteer was very rewarding(有益的).It has changed me as a person and the way I viewed life in the past.

A year ago, I paid no attention to English idioms, though my teacher emphasized (强调) the importance again and again. But soon, the importance of English idioms was shown in an amusing experience.

One day, I happened to meet an Englishman on the road, and soon we began to talk. As I was talking about how I was studying English, the foreigner seemed to be surprised. Gently shaking his head, shrugging his shoulders, he said, “You don’t say” “You don’t say” I was puzzled. I thought, perhaps this is not an proper topic. “Well, I’d better change the topic.” So I said to him, “Well, shall we talk about the Great Wall? By the way, have you ever been there?” “Certainly, everyone back home will laugh at me if I leave China without seeing it. It was wonderful.” He was deep in thought when I began to talk like a tourist guide. “The Great Wall is one of the wonders in the world. We are very proud of it.” Soon I was stopped again by his words: “You don’t say!” I couldn’t help asking, “Why do you ask me not to talk about it?” “Well,I didn’t ask you to do so,” he answered, greatly surprised. I said, “Didn’t you say ‘you don’t say’ ?” Hearing this, the Englishman laughed to tears. He began to explain, “ ‘you don’t say” actually means ‘really’! It is an expression of surprise. Perhaps you don’t pay attention to English idioms.” Only then did I know how foolish I had been. Since then I have been more careful with idiomatic expressions. Remember: what the English teachers said is always right to us students.

If you know how to study a glass of wine, it can tell you about its history. Studying a wine involves using several senses, not just taste.

First, pour the wine into a glass and look at it. Color can tell a lot about the kind of grapes where the wine is from and its age. Look at the clarity, thickness and color of the wine.

A white wane might be almost colorless, or it could have a deep golden color. White wines go darker with age. White wine made from grapes grown in a cool climate is often paler, with a higher amount of acid (). A white wine from grapes grown in a warmer climate is often yellower, with less acid, though there are exceptions to this rule.

The color of red wine can be purplish red to brick red. Red wines often become paler with age Red wines grown in warmer climates often have deeper color than those grown in cooler climates.

Next, tum the glass so that the wine moves around inside. This brings air into the wine, so that it releases its smell. Smell the wine deeply. A wine’s smell is actually more telling than its taste To use a wine term, what can you learn about the wine from its “nose”? Is the wine fruity? Does it smell like oak? Do you smell grass or maybe honey? Maybe the. smell is like butter or a mineral. It may be complex or intense.

Now it is time to taste the wine. Move it around in your mouth. You may recognize some tastes because you identify them while smelling the wine. You can also consider the wine’s sweetness and its sharpness, or acidity. You may note the taste of tannin. Tannins are chemicals that are found in the skin and seeds of grapes. They are also found in tea. Tannins taste bitter and seem to coat your mouth. To make a good wine requires a balance between sugar, acidity, tannin and alcohol.

Many wine experts can identify the kind of wine without ever seeing the label on the bottle. This is because they know the qualities of the look, smell and taste of a wine.

    1. According to the passage, a red wine with a lighter color might be the wine_______.

    A. that has a lower amount of acid.                                         B. that is grown in cooler climates.

    C. that is not good wine                                                         D. that is grown in warmer climates.

    2. By looking at the color of the wine, experts______.

    A. can know whether the wine tastes good or not.                            B. can know whether the wine is made from grapes.

    C. can know whether the wine has a long or short history.        D. can know whether the wine has a good color.

    3. Paragraph 5 suggests the followings except that______.

    A. wine can have different kinds of smells.

    B. A wine’s smell can’t give any meaningful information about the wine

    C. You can’t smell the wine properly if you don’t turn the glass.

    D. A wine might not smell like wine.

    4. In tasting wine, one needs to pay attention to______.

    A. how sweet it tastes.                                                           B. how sharp it tastes.

    C. how bitter it tastes.                                                            D. all of the above.

I can proudly say that last year I broke the record for the oldest person in the world to ride a roller-coaster. I'm 105, but I feel younger. Even the doctor agrees I'm in good condition. I'm a bit deaf and my legs feel weak, but they are the only issue (问题)

I rode the Twistosaurus at Flamingo Land, which spins you round quite fast. I didn't choose to go on that. I'd have preferred a really fast one that went upside down. But I was told I couldn't ride something like that, because my blood pressure could drop and I might have some danger.

1 wasn't nervous - I don't get frightened of anything. I was securely fastened, so I knew I wouldn't fall out. The roller-coaster ride went on for three or four minutes, and it couldn't be a better experience. And I raised a lot of money for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance fund, which was fantastic.

People were saying I'd got a place in the Guinness World Records. Later, someone came to present me with the certificate. I had it on the wall in my living room, with another one that got a year earlier.

My record-breaking ways really began a couple of years ago, with the ice-bucket challenge. It turned out that I was probably the oldest person in the world to do it, and the video was very popular. After that, I stared to think about what else I could do to raise money for different charities (慈善).

I'm not sure if anyone admires all the fun I'm having. They just say I'm daft and that's about it. But I've had many good days and many exciting times. I've had a really good life. I don't think I've wasted any of it.

    28. Why didn't the author choose to go on riding the Twistosaurus?

    A. Because he was told not to do so.

    B. Because he considered it too gentle.

    C. Because he thought it spun too fast.

    D. Because he was in a bad physical condition.

    29. How did the author most probably react while riding the roller-coaster?

    A. He really enjoyed himself.

    B. He was very worried at first.

    C. He couldn't think much about it.

    D. He got frightened as it started moving.

    30. What do you know about the author from Paragraph 4?

    A. He was eager to get certificates.

    B. He disliked showing off his success.

    C. He was the oldest person in the world.

    D. He set a record the year before last year.

    31. Which word can best describe the author?

    A. Warm-hearted

    B. Optimistic

    C. Generous

    D. Intelligent

1 had the strangest dream last night. 1 was walking down a dirt road with snowy woods on either side of me. I was all alone. I couldn't see another person anywhere. All at once, however, I saw someone walking towards me in the distance. As this person got closer and closer I realized that it was me. It was me from many years ago, fresh-faced and young. I could see in his mind all the dreams and hopes that he had too. They had, after all, once been my own.

I was overjoyed. I had so many things I wanted to say to this younger me. I wanted to spare him the pain I had suffered and the mistakes I had made. I wanted to share with him all that I had learned over the long years of my life. I wanted to show him how his life would turn out so different from what he had thought and hoped it would, but that it would be much better and happier than the path he was now on. I wanted him not to waste so many years on the things his ego (自我) thought were so vital but instead to realize that love was the most important thing in this life.

I opened my mouth to say all of these things but couldn't. 1 realized at that moment that even if I told him he wouldn't believe me. He would have to walk the road I had walked, learn the things I had learned, and go through all I had gone through. He would have to find truth in his own way and in his own time. I let him walk on by and watched as he disappeared in the distance. Then I turned to continue on my own way and woke up.

In this life there are no shortcuts ( 捷径) .We all have to walk the road. We all have to travel through sorrow as well as joy. We all have to learn to love. We all have to grow into who we were meant to be. It takes our whole lives. Yet, it is a journey worth making.

    24. Who did the author meet in his dream?

    A. himself and another person

    B. himself from the future

    C. someone he didn't know

    D. himself from the past

    25. What did the author want to do?

    A. He wanted to forgive himself.

    B. He wanted to share something.

    C. He wanted to show his life could be better.

    D. He wanted to indicate ego thought is vital.

    26. Why couldn't the author say anything that he wanted to say?

    A. Because he thought he wouldn't be trusted.

    B. Because he hadn't learned much in life.

    C. Because he let himself go.

    D. Because he woke up.

    27. What can be inferred from the passage?

    A. Love is not always the most important in life.

    B. If we walk the road alone, we can walk better.

    C. Everyone has to make his own life journey.

    D. It's impossible to grow into who were meant to be.
