China's cultural relic protection has made progress, but many problems still exist and need to be solved. China has made over 30 rules 1 the law of cultural relic protection.
China has also 2 four international conventions(协定) concerning cultural relic protection and investment in cultural relic protection has also 3 .
Statistics show that from 2000 to 2005 4 China carried out its 10th Five-Year Plan, total investment in the field 5 7.889 billion yuan. With financial support from the government, China 6 started a nationwide campaign(运动) to search and protect cultural relics in 2003.
China has so far 7 a total of 2,351 cultural relic sites and 518 intangible(无形的) cultural relics on the 8 of national protected items. Restoration(恢复) and protection have been carried out on important cultural relic sites 9 the Potala Palace in Tibet and the Palace Museum in Beijing.
Chinese museums have developed well in recent years. China has more than 2,300 museums that 10 about 150 million people annually.
However, cultural relics in China now face great 11 . Many historic cities have been 12 . Illegal trade and smuggling(走私) activities have not been eliminated(除去), which has 13 the loss of national treasures overseas. 14 , many important cultural relic sites have declined(下降) or are hard to pass on 15 too much exploration and improper use. And some cultural relics 16 by minority ethnic groups have lost their character due to the 17 lifestyle of the people.
18 , we should keep our mind clear and take more 19 to better protect cultural relics, and 20 the whole society to take part in this cause.

April Fool’s Day is a western festival. No one 41 exactly when and how April Fool’s Day began. However, there are some stories about 42 it came into being. One story 43 like this: in the sixteenth-century France, the start of the new year was on April first. It was celebrated 44 much the same way 45 it is today with parties and dancing into the late hours of the night. Then in 1562, Pope (教皇) Gregory introduced a new calendar(日历) for the Christian world, and the new year fell on January first. There were some people, 46 , who hadn’t heard or didn’t believe the 47 in the date, so they 48 to celebrate New Year’s Day on April first. 49 played tricks on them and called them “April fools”. They tried to make them believe that something false was 50. In France today, April first is called “April Fish”. French children fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends’ 51 . When the “young fool” 52 this trick, the prankster(恶作剧者) shouts “April Fish!”
Today Americans play small tricks on friends and strangers alike on the first of April. One 53 trick on April Fool’s Day is 54 to a friend’s shoe and saying, “Your shoelace is united (你的鞋带开了).” School children might tell a classmate that school has been canceled. 55 the trick is, if you fail for the joke the prankster shouts “April Fool!”
In Britain today, on the first of April, even 56 newspapers, radio and TV programs tell big lies. You 57 read a science 58 showing that doctors have found a way to cure AIDS, 59 you would probably listen to a piece of news about an UFO 60 on an island.

Children find meanings in their old family tales
When Stephen Guyer’s three children were growing up, he told them stories about how his grandfather, a banker, __21 all in the 1930s, but did not lose sight of what he valued most. In one of the darkest times 22 his strong-minded grandfather was nearly 23 , he loaded his family into the car and 24 them to see family members in Canada with a 25 ,“there are more important things in life than money. ”
The 26 took on a new meaning recently when Mr. Guyer downsized to a 27 house from a more expensive and comfortable one. He was 28 that his children, a daughter, 15, and twins, 22, would be upset. To his surprise, they weren’t. 29 ,their reaction echoed (共鸣) their great-grandfather’s. What they 30 was how warm the people were in the house and how 31 of their heart was accessible.
Many parents are finding family stories have surprising power to help children 32 hard times. Storytelling experts say the phenomenon reflects a growing 33 in telling tales, evidenced by a rise in a storytelling events and festivals.
A university 34 of 65 families with children aged from 14 to 16 found kids’ ability to 35 parents’ stories was linked to a lower rate of anger and anxiety.
The 36 is telling the stories in a way children can 37 . We’re not talking here about the kind of story that 38 , “When I was a kid, I walked to school every day uphill both ways, barefoot in the snow.” Instead, we should choose a story suited to the child’s 39 , and make eye contact to create “a personal experience”, We don’t have to tell children 40 they should take from the story and what the moral is. ”

I tend to accept any idea put forward by experts on TV. One day, a sociologist proposed(提出,建议) that the 16 society has been consuming (消费)modern humans little by little. For fear that I would become a victim(受害者)of the consumer society, I 17 hurried to a bicycle shop in my neighborhood. 18 the shopkeeper Mr. Johnson was selling me the bicycle, he said, “This is the best thing you 19 have done. Life has become hopelessly 20 . A bicycle is simple, and it brings to you 21 things: fresh air, sunshine and exercise.” I agreed. Happy as a child, I got on the bicycle and headed out onto the streets. After some time, I 22 at the other end of the town. I was 23 that this simple vehicle could let me 24 long distances in a fairly short time. But how 25 did I really go?
Since I hated to be 26 , I went back to Mr. Johnson and asked him to 27 an odometer (里程表) on my bicycle. He agreed, but 28 , “An odometer without a speedometer (速度计) is like a 29 without a knife.” I admitted he was right and in a few minutes, the two devices (装置) were 30 to the handlebars(把手)of my bicycle. “What about a horn?” he then asked. “Look, this horn is no larger than a matchbox and has many 31 .” Attracted by these functions, I bought the horn. “You can’t leave the back part 32 ,” noted Mr. Johnson. He fixed a metal box with buttons 33 the seat, and said, “Is there anything better than this oven(烤箱) when you feel 34 on your way? I can give you a special discount.” I was not strong enough to 35 the offer.
“I congratulate you once more; this is the best thing you could have done,” said Mr. Johnson in the end.

These days, the custom that wives should cook has changed in Japan, especially people in their 20’s and 30’s tend to think so. Among 41 in that age group, both husbands and wives have 42 and they are very busy, so they tend to think that sharing the housework is 43 .
But not everyone 44 because husbands do not have enough chance to know how to 45 . Up to now, they have been used to seeing two 46 : their mothers cook every day and their fathers 47 those dishes. Recently some cooking schools for 48 have opened. I have read several articles about the schools. Students of the cooking schools are mostly middle-aged men who are 49 of their retirement, because they work from morning to night at their 50 , so they do not know how to cook. 51 , their wives cook 52 ; they have many hobbies, and they know how to enjoy their spare time. After these men retire, they tend to do nothing in their 53 hours. So these men are 54 to cook not only as a hobby, but also because it is necessary to them.
In Japan, the famous cooks are almost all male, 55 the famous cooking teachers are almost all 56 . I think that this tendency also 57 our true beliefs: being a cook is considered a business and being a cooking teacher is considered a(n) 58 of cooking as housework. I believe this tendency will 59 in the future. We will have many chances to cook without 60 whether we are husbands or wives.
