Do you ever feel like you are studying a mad rush of one subject after another? When things happen at such a 1 pace, it is easy to lose sight of what you are learning. It is important to 2 every now and then to think about what you’ve been learning.
Self reflection means stopping the mad rush and 3 yourself so your brain can evaluate what it has already 4 . Some people prefer to do their self reflections 5 ,while others keep a journal. Either method can work, depending on what your own personal 6 is.
School textbooks are often divided into units. This can make it 7 for someone to begin the process of self reflection. Watch for the times when you complete a unit of study. Sometimes you are reminded that the unit is 8 because there is some kind of test or quiz. Use these natural 9 as opportunities to stop and reflect.
You should find a 10 place- anywhere without noise is OK. This can even be sitting at your desk at school when you finish something 11 and the other students are still working. If you are going to take notes, take out your journal. Write down some notes on things that you 12 learned in this unit. Let your mind think about the notes you have written and make some 13 .
Sometimes just pausing to think deeply allows your brain to make connections 14 new information can quickly appear when you 15 it again. Next, think about things you still wonder about. 16 maybe you learned about a certain body system, but you don’t 17 how it works with the other body system. Maybe you learned a new way to solve a math problem, but you’re not sure when to use it. Writing down your 18 will help you remember to continue seeking answers the next time you 19 the same topic.
Self reflection is an essential skill for a 20 student. If you have never taken the time to reflect, try it now.

Are you going to school for something your parents pushed on you? Are you doing things just because others expect you to? I found many 1 in my Life Coaching lessons. The biggest one some students are having is that they are living a life someone else has 2 for them.
Why on earth would someone live a life that someone else wants for him? Usually, the main 3 is his parents. When we’re growing up we must do what our parents want us to do. We really don’t have our own 4 . The problem is that most parents are overly 5 that they know what’s best for their children. Many parents 6 their children to make certain educational 7 . Some parents won’t 8 their children’s college, unless the children learn 9 what the parents decide.
Parents aren’t the only ones 10 their ideas on my students. I have some students who are doing jobs they really 11 , but their friends or relatives would not support them if they apply for a 12 job they’d like better.
Are you allowing others to decide what life you are living now? If so, it is a 13 .
Even if you are about to 14 for college and you find that the only way your parents will pay school fees for you is that you choose Business, but you want to 15 Art… And at this moment I don’t 16 that you choose the major you have no 17 .Follow your heart.

While high school does not generally encourage students to explore new aspects of life, college sets the stage for that exploration. I myself went through this 36 process and found something that has changed my 37 at college for the better: I discovered ASL—American Sign Language.
I never felt an urge to 38 any sign language before. My entire family is hearing, and so are all my friends. The 39 languages were enough in all my interactions . Little did I know that I would discover my 40 for ASL.
The 41 began during my first week at college. I watched as the ASL Club 42 their translation of a song. Both the hand movements and the very 43 of communicating without speaking 44 me. What I saw was completely unlike anything I had experienced in the 45 . This newness just left me 46 more.
After that, feeling the need to 47 further, I decided to drop in on one of ASL club's meetings. I only learned how to 48 the alphabet that day. Yet instead of being discouraged by my 49 progress, I was excited. I then made it a point to 50 those meetings and learn all I could.
The following term, I 51 an ASL class. The professor was deaf and any talking was 52 . I soon realized that the silence was not unpleasant. 53 , if there had been any talking, it would have 54 us to learn less. Now, I appreciate the silence and the 55 way of communication it opens.

I know I’m not perfect. But I think there is a(n) 41 side of my own weaknesses and faults, for they seem to bring joy to others.
Or maybe it’s just that I underestimate the importance of my own 42 . I might be the man who was driving a car with a(n) 43 that read, “Hang up and drive.” A police officer was 44 to see the sign, as she had witnessed too many 45 caused by motorists talking on cell phones. Wanting to show her agreement to the driver, she pulled up alongside the car. But she was 46 to see the car driver shaving.
Maybe it is just 47 to tell the weaknesses in others. It’s like the camel. An African proverb states, “The camel 48 sees its own hump(驼峰), but that of its brother is always before its 49 ” I probably don’t see my own humps very 50 .
So I can 51 the story of an elderly couple who, while on a car trip, stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. The woman left her 52 on the table. Her husband 53 all the way back to the restaurant about her 54 leaving her glasses behind. They eventually arrived, and the woman got out of the car to get her eye glasses, the old man said, “ 55 you’re there, you may as well get my hat, too”.
Everything that annoys us about others can lead us to a(n) 56 of ourselves. The humps we can’t help but seeing in others are 57 like the humps others see in us. Or, perhaps they are like the humps we see in ourselves.
So, what would happen if we’d 58 other people’s faults and humps as a gift? After all, they’re 59 us about ourselves. And that’s what makes us 60 from camels and we can make some changes.

From the first week of high school, my best friend, Trisha, was always going out with the popular girls. 41 I thought, “It’s okay; she’s just making new friends.” But soon I realized that Trisha wasn’t interested in me anymore. I’d 42 my best friend. It really hurt.
One day, I told Trisha that we should 43 pretending (假装) to be friends when we really weren’t anymore. I wasn’t trying to make her mad 44 she was. After that, Trisha started talking about me behind my back, telling people that I was 45 . Some of our friends 46 with her. I felt like she was taking them away from me.
The more I thought about it, the 47 I got. Finally, I 48 a picture of Trisha and drew lines on her face. I wrote, “I 49 this person” across the bottom. And then I did something I’ll always 50 : I put it on a website I thought was 51 . I thought people would see it, and it felt good to vent (发泄).
A week later, Trisha’s mom saw the 52 . She called my mom, who made me take it off the website right away. However, it was already too 53 . Lots of people had seen it, and I was in a lot of 54 .
That whole day, I felt 55 . I had to say sorry to Trisha face to face. She said she accepted my apology (道歉), but I felt she was 56 angry with me.
Posting that picture was one of the worst 57 I’ve ever made. I realize now I could have found a much better way to deal with my 58 . If I’d just told Trisha how much I 59 her, maybe things would have turned out 60 . It’s too late for me to change things, but I hope you’ll learn from my mistake.

Do parents owe their kids anything? Starting from my position, parents do not owe their children a 16 education. If they can 17 it, they can 18 send them to the best universities. But they must not feel guilty if they can’t. If the children really want to go, they’ll find a 19 . There are plenty of loans (贷款) and scholarships for the bright and 20 ones who can’t afford to pay.
When children grow up and want to 21 , their parents do not owe them a down payment on a house. They do not have the 22 to baby-sit their grandchildren. If they want to do it, it must be considered a 23 not a responsibility.
Do parents owe their children anything? Yes, they owe them a great deal.
One of their duties is to give their children a personal 24 . A child who is constantly made to feel stupid and unworthy, constantly 25 to brighter brothers, sisters, or cousins will be so 26 , so afraid of failing that he (or she) won’t try at all. Of course they should be 27 corrected when they do wrong, but it’s often better to let children learn their mistakes by themselves 28 . All our parents should do is to trust them, respect them, tolerate (宽容) them and give them chances to try and fail. They must learn to stand 29 . When criticisms (批评) are really needed, they should be 30 with praises, with a smile and a kiss. That is the way children learn.
Parents owe their children a set of solid values around 31 they build their lives. This means teaching them to 32 the rights and opinions of others; it means being respectful to elders, to teachers, and to the law. The best way to teach such values is by 33 . A child who is lied to will lie. A child seeing no laughter and no love in the home will have 34 laughing and loving.
No child asks to be 35 . If you bring a life into the world, you owe the child something.

As a child, I started learning to play the piano, my favorite musical 41 ,but I was forced to give up when I started my middle school 42 I could concentrate more on my studies.
It’s one of my biggest 43 to stop practicing the piano when I recall sadly today. During the following years, I kept telling my piano teacher that I would 44 . However, I didn’t keep my promise because I was 45 with my study. 46 I lost touch with my teacher. Some years later, my teacher died. I was very sad because I lost such a good teacher. She was a very warm and gentle person. It hurts me to think she may have been 47 that I never returned. I haven’t taken lessons since then but to be honest, I 48 to. Sitting at the piano, I couldn’t help recalling many 49 -- times of my practising at home and playing before my teacher and one time my teacher 50 me after I played entire pieces of music wrong in front of her colleagues. I was so 51 that I could hardly say anything. But her 52 helped me ease my shame. These memories, 53 , good or bad, never caused my 54 for playing the piano again.
This thought then led me to think that 55 is like music, and that we all try to play different 56 in the instrument of our life. Sometimes the pitch(音高) is 57 when we play it well, but sometimes we are out of tone. However, we all continue to create our own 58 style of music. No matter what style our music is, it is 59 that we sing the songs of joy, quietness and love. Though I may never make it back to piano lessons, it doesn’t 60 that I’ve stopped making music.

Why do people go to university? There is a popular notion that a college education is something to be endured in order to become __41___to obtain certain kinds of jobs or to go to graduate school. This is not what we are trying to do at Harvard, nor would we wish to have many students here who took such a(n)___42___view of a college career. There are several goals we aim to reach in our undergraduate program.
The most obvious one is to give knowledge—fairly___43___knowldege in one field and a more general knowledge of a variety of other subject areas which you may choose according to your interest. But if acquiring knowledge is a self-evident part of a college education, it is __44___the most important. Remarkably few of the facts you learn here will remain in your___45___for many years, and some of those that do will even be proved ___46___by new knowledge.
__47___, we can instill(灌输)certain attitudes of mind-a willingness to accept uncertainly and the lack of definite truths; independence of mind, and a respect for facts and for the uncomfortable conclusions which facts sometimes lead to.
In addition to these ___48___qualities, a college education should try to lay a foundation for the creative use of ___49___time. Some of this capacity can be stimulated in the classroom—in courses in the humanities and the arts. Yet, at least as much __50___will occur outside the lecture hall---on athletic fields, in music rooms, student theaters, concert hails, and so forth.
These are some of the __51___of a liberal college education as I see them. I cannot resist concluding with a few private thoughts about our new careers at Harvard.
To begin with, I hope that we will think__52___about what we want to accomplish here. It would be __53___for you to set your sights on some limited goal, such as getting good grades or merely getting into one or another graduate school.
Second, I hope that you will give some thought to what you can do for others during your stay here. There are many problems waiting for your help, and many people who could __14___your efforts.
My final bit of advice. Whatever else we do, let us remember not to take ourselves too seriously. However great our problems may seem, however urgent our complaints, they are overshadowed(黯然失色)by the __55__of countless other people on our planet.
