This is not a diet. It is a simple way to lose weight. You do not have to give up the food you love or join a gym. You just follow some habits thin people have. Keep them, and you’ll become thin.

    Wake-up

When you wake up in the morning, sit up slowly without using your hands with legs straight out, lean forward until you feel sore in your back. It will use up 10 calories.

    ___13___.

Order a clear soup, and have it before the main food. In this way, you will feel fuller and you’ll cat less when the main food comes.

    ___14___.

Apples are full of fiber and water, so your stomach will want less. Studies show that people who eat at least three apples or pears a day may lose weight.

    ___15___.

Every time you use the cell phone, stand up and walk around. Heavy people sit on average two and a half hours more a day than thin people. This skill is very important as standing up and walking around will burn up 50 or more calories.

Use these skills, and you will have a big weight loss.

    A. How to lose weight

    B. Eat an apple or more a day

    C. Talk it up

    D. Start with soup

    A. Unfortunately, there aren’t nearly enough trained genetics counselors to handle the coming upsurge in demand for this type of information.

    B. Adults cannot do much to alter their biological lot, but what if parents could examine their unborn child’s genome?

    C. Cancer has become the first killer these years. That’s why people tend to take overtreatment with the knowledge of family history.

    D. Another fear is that a customer without discussing with genetics counselor can receive information via the Internet about a multifold greater risk of breast cancer.

AB. Another problem arises whether it is moral to chose to stop pregnancy because of the genome problem.

AC. Attitudes toward child rearing might change along with the new technology.

    1) In a few years you will be able to order a transcript of your entire genetic code for less than $1,000. ____67____Two different university laboratories have developed test that will reveal the entirety of a baby’s genetic code using just a blood sample from the mother plus a drop of saliva(唾液)from the father.

    2) Prenatal(出生前的) whole-genome sequencing will provide volumes of information beyond the currently available tests exclusively for genetic disorders such as Down’s syndrome or Tay-Saches disease. The three billion units of code furnished in the new tests will also dwarf(使……相形见的) the relative trickle(零散)of information provided by consumer gene-testing services such as 23andMe, which currently look only at perhaps about one million locations in the genome.

3)____68____Without careful panning, the new prenatal genetics might rob a child of the chance to make decisions best left until adulthood---whether or not to learn, for instance, if a mutation(突变)predicts the inevitability of Huntington’s disease 20 years hence.

    4)_____69_____. Similar laissez0faire(放住)action to prenatal whole-genome testing could portend(预示)tragedy.

5)Ultimately certain agency will need to develop a comprehensive policy on prenatal whole genome testing. Bioethics scholars wrote an analysis last summer that calls on the medical community to develop a guide to the most relevant genomic data for future parents. ___70___Without access to a much higher level of refined expertise, the secrets of our offspring’s genetic code will continue to remain an unnerving cipher---or worse.

    C. When you start your homework, deal with the hardest tasks first.

    D. But if you’re really concentrating, waIt until it’s a good time to stop.

AB. And no teacher still believe that “chewed by the dog” line-- even when it’s true.

AC. In conclusion, no one is excepted to stay long, and people have very different learning styles.

Do arithmetic problems 15 trough 25. State the different forms of the verbs on page 50 of your English workbook. Recite the whole passage of the Peacock Flies to the Southeast, and don’t forget to fill in the missing chemical symbols on the worksheet.

Sound like a list of your homework for the next few nights--- or maybe even just for tonight (82)____ It’s your teachers’ way of evaluating how much you understand what’s going on in class. It helps strengthen important concepts.

(83)_______ It’s inviting to start with the easy things to get them out of the way. However, you will have the most energy and focus when you begin, so it’s best to us this mental power on the subjects that are most challenging which without a doubt should be English. Later, when you are more tired, you can focus on the simpler things like maths. If you get stuck on a problem, try to figure it out as well as you can-- but don’t spend too much time on it because this can mess up your homework schedule for the rest of the night. Most people’s attention spans aren’t very long, so take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without relaxing will make you less productive than if you stop every so often. Taking a 15-minute break every hour is a good idea for most people. (84)_______.

Once your homework is done, you can check over it if you have extra time. Be sure to put it safely away in your backpack---there’s nothing worse than having a completed assinment that you can’t find the next morning or that gets ruined by a careless brother or sister.(85)_______ Now you’re free to hang out.

Whether we’re buying a pair of running shoes, reading a certain book, or even selecting a life partner , everyday decisions--from the ordinary and typically unexciting to the (41)______challenges of balancing career, family, and individual needs--have become increasingly complicated due to the overwhelming(42)______of choice with which we are presented.

We assume that more choices should mean better options and greater satisfaction. But (43)______the considerable amount of choice causes people to become helpless and dissatisfied. So beware of choice overload. Beyond a certain number of choices, the law of diminishing marginal utility(边际效应) begins to take effects. Choices overload can make you (44)______ the decisions you make before you even make them, it can set you up for (45)______high expectations, and it can make you blame yourself for any and all failures.

In his beautifully-reasoned book The Paradox of Choice, Barry Schwartz explains why too much of a good thing has proven harmful to our psychological and emotional well-being. The case he makes for a correlation between our emotional state and what he calls the “the tyranny(暴政) of choice” is fairly(46)______. Schwartz illustrates well how our choices have expanded, how our demands for perfection have increased and how we suffer as a result---from regret and feelings of asking for more. He makes the counter-intuitive case that(47)______choices can greatly reduce the stress, anxiety, and busyness of our lives. In (48)______, engaging language, he offers practical steps for how to limit choices to a manageable number, have the (49)______ to focus on the important ones and ignore the rest. And if you can(50)______those approaches, ultimately you will derive greater satisfaction from the choices you do make.

Public image doesn't make money directly, nor is it anything visible. However, excellent public image is such an important thing that it is   19   desired by every company, enterprise, institution, etc. Public image refers to how a company is   20    by its customers, suppliers, and stockholders (股东), by the financial community, by the communities where it operates, and by federal and local governments. Public image is controllable to   21  extents, just as the           product, price, place, and promotional efforts are.

A firm's public image plays a vital role in the   22   of the firm and its products to employees, customers, and to such outsiders as stockholders, suppliers, creditors (贷款方), government officials, as well as different special groups. With some things it is impossible to23                all the different publics: for example, a new highly automated plant may meet the  24    of creditors and stockholders. However, it will undoubtedly find resistance from employees who see their jobs threated. On the other hand, high quality products and service standards should bring almost complete approval, while low quality products and false claims would be widely looked down upon.

A firm's public image, if it is good, should be   25    . It is a valuable strength that usually is built up over a long and satisfying relationship of a firm with publics. If a firm has  26   a quality image, this is not easily imitated by competitors. Such an image may enable a firm to charge higher prices, to win the best distributors, to attract the best employees, to expect the most    27   creditor relationships and lowest borrowings costs. It should also allow the firm’s stock to   28     higher price-earnings ratio(比例) than other firms in the same industry with such a good reputation and public image.

    Why People Use Pseudonyms(艺名)

You can’t choose the name given at birth, but in many countries you can change it legally when you reach adulthood. Of course, most people never change their names even if they feel (31)_____ about them. However, some people do take this course of (32)______- particularly artists! What makes an artist want to change their name? Sometimes it’s for purely (33)______ reasons, such as the Nobel Prize winning poet from Chile, Neftali Reyes. He didn’t want his father to know he was writing poems, so he changed his name to Pablo Nenda when he was a young man. At other times the reason may appear (34)______; take the case of Portuguese poet Femando Pessoa, who wrote under 75 different names. The reason? “When I use a different name, I always write in a different way,” he explained. In most cases, however, people do it for social, historical, political, or cultural reasons. Here are some of the most common:1111]

The person’s name is just too long and difficult to remember. Let’s be honest, Madonna Louise Ciccone is not as easy to remember as just (35)______ “Madonna”. And short names are easier to remember. William Bradley became Brad Pitt and Edson Arantes do Nascimento became Pele.

Sometimes names are changed for marketing purpose. For example, if a name sounds too foreign, it may be changed to something that is more (36)______ in a market. So in the film world, Ramon Estevez (37)______ the name Martin Sheen. Or maybe the artist’s real name doesn’t sound very attractive --- Chad Everett does sound a lot better than Raymond Cramton!

Artists sometimes choose the name of someone they admire. Robert Zimmerman changed his name to Bob Dylan because of his (38)______for the Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas.

Another reason may be (39)______: in the past, women found it very difficult to become a well-received writer. To avoid this situation, they sometimes gave themselves men’s name, so the English author Mary Ann Evans consequently became George Eliot, and she did get her books (40)______!

Television watching is an activity which is known to be harmful to health and is distinct from getting too little exercise. But a new study suggests its damaging effects may even ____31___ alongside those from smoking and obesity. Researchers who studied television viewing habits in Australia calculated that people who watch for a(n)   ____32 ___  of six hours a day shorten their life expectancy by almost five years.

They based their calculations on data on the ___33___ between television viewing and death from the Australian obesity and lifestyle study which involved l 1,000 adults aged 25 and over. Applying these findings to the whole population over 25, who are estimated to have watched 9.8 billion hours of TV in 2008, they concluded that it __34___ for 286,000 years of life lost --equivalent to 22 minutes for each, hour watched. By__35___ , smoking one cigarette is estimated to shorten life expectancy by 11 minutes -- equivalent to half an hour of TV watching.

Writing in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, the authors from the University of Queensland, say the figures suggest "huge loss of life may be ___36___ with too much TV viewing." The UK and other industrialized countries are likely to be similarly affected "given the typically large amounts of time spent watching TV and the similarities in disease patterns." The researchers add: "If these figures are __37___ and shown to reflect a cause and effect relationship, TV viewing is a public health problem comparable in size to established behavioral risk factors."

Researchers from Taiwan University found even those who did as little as 92 minutes' exercise a week,- equivalent to 15 minutes a day for six days a week -- reduced their __38___ of death by 14 per cent. Even this small amount of exercise could postpone one in six of all deaths -- similar to the ___39__ of a stop-smoking programme. Each __40__ 15 minutes a day reduced the death rate by a further 4 per cent.
