The results of the research, by the name of Longevity Project were released recently, throwing new light on what we can do to live longer. Based on the new information and modern statistics to study participants gathered across eight years, Dr. Howard Friedman exposes the secret to achieving good health and a long life. It was found that worry-free characters, far from being longevity-friendly as traditional wisdom assumed, died younger than the types interpreted as calm and easy-going. There is a connection between happiness and longevity, but the elements of happiness are not unlimited leisure, positivity and absence of stress. In fact, the opposite maybe more contributive. Longevity is far more than genetics, diet, or exercise. It is closely connected with emotions. Staying married happily is the magic key to a long life, especially if you are a woman.
Another factor is our attitude towards health. We assume that modern medical advantages can deliver us from the consequence of our unhealthy act and see no reason to change our careless gestures towards ageing as the years fly by until something, sometimes the terrible disease, wakes us up. But a positive by-product of age blindness is the appetite for work, which remains strong and may even sharpen as we seek ways to keep death in a distance. And the state of being at work --working the hardest-- would appear to enhance the prospect for a longest life.
As for whether economic condition determine how we live and for how long, whose effect on life expectancy is not so evident on current technical level, the study detects some differences in health conditions that at first glance may be caused by the gap that does exercise its influence, but mainly on a person’s self judgment.
On the current stage, one thing can be sure. Various factors work in determining how long we live. Only some of these can be somewhat influenced at a personal level which makes it even more important to know what those facts are, what measure can be taken to extend life expectancy within our power.
