To me, kindness is a chosen lifestyle. In my classroom, I tell my 21 that every day they are offered a choice. They can’t choose what happens to them, but they can choose how they 22 to it. Kindness is a 23 . And it is a lifestyle. It isn’t something that we just choose once in a while---- it is a(n) 24 to live our lives.
My father was hospitalized with leukemia(白血病) when I was in college. He didn’t choose the cancer. 25 , he chose how to react to it. To this day, seventeen years later , the nurses 26 write my mother letters. The 27 ? It was because of my father’s kindness to others even when he was 28 against the disease. He made kindness a lifestyle.
And I want to be 29 him.
Every day as a teacher, I try and teach my students the kindness lifestyle. Just recently, I turned 40 and a friend gave me 40 individual dollar bills. She challenged me to do something 30 with the money. I gladly accepted the challenge.
I gave 40 of my students one dollar each and challenged them to make a(n) 31 . What happened? My Twitter and Instagram were 32 with pictures of kids making the world a better place. One girl bought a dollar store stuffed animal(填充玩具). It was 33 that kids should have made a difference when they were given the 34 .
Living the kindness lifestyle 35 every day, every opportunity. As a high school teacher, I see 36 everywhere. In the hallways, in the lunchroom, in the locker room, 37 words and gossip(随笔) fill the air. So I started a hashtag (标签) to 38 positive gossip called “third party compliments(称赞)”. The idea is that you talk about people behind their backs, but do it in a 39 way. In that way, the gossip that gets back to students makes their day instead of getting them down.
Our kindness lifestyle leaves a footprint on others, and let us be the movers and kindness-makers who 40 a better, more beautiful world.

Honesty is always the best policy. Though lying often allows one to escape punishment for the moment, the 41 will always come out. In most situations, one will 42 that lying does not offer the same long-term benefits (好处) as honesty does.
Sometimes people lie for the purpose of being 43 . For example, my cousin Joanne was 44 to her friend’s birthday party and she asked for my 45 on her dress. In fact, her dress was terrible, but I 46 and told her that the dress was beautiful. How could I 47 her excitement over the dress? Looking back at that moment, I probably should have told her the truth, considering that the guests 48 her.
After that I realized the 49 of telling the truth. My brother once helped his best friend cheat on a 50 test. That night, he told me what happened at school. I was very 51 and asked him to say sorry to his math teacher immediately 52 he went to school the next day. __53__, the teacher only forced the two boys to take the test again. If my brother had not followed my __54 _, he might have been kicked out of school. 55 , my brother’s behavior sets a good example for his friend. So he 56 his friend and helped him avoid serious punishment.
In some cases, lying seems to be 57 . For example, how can one 58 to young children what has happened when they lose one of their family members? Imagine loving someone so much that you’d swim more than 5,000 miles to see him or her. Dindim manages to swim that far every year to 41 his friend John.
This is 42, not only because of the love between the two friends, but because Dindim is 43 a penguin.
John found Dindim covered in oil, hardly 44 on a beach near his home. He picked him up, cleaned him off and brought him to his house where he 45 him and got him healthy again. John named him Dindim.
After a week, he 46 the penguin back to the beach and tried to release him, 47 Dindim refused to leave John. They 48 together for the next eleven months. Then, Dindim disappeared. 49, John thought he’d never see his friend again.
But just a few months 50 , Dindim was back. He found John on the beach, and followed him home. Each year, he 51 for four months to live with other penguins. For the other eight months, he lives with John.
John says that each time they meet again, Dindim seems 52 to see him. He says he loves the penguin as if he were his own 53. He feels certain that Dindim loves him in the 54 way.

What’s less obvious is whether or not human love animals enough to 56 them. Hundreds of thousands of animals are 57 by the same oil that covered Dindim when John found him. Fifty percent of 58 has disappeared in the last 40 years because of humans 59 their habitats. Scientists say we’re in a new mass extinction period. In the next two 60, they predict that we’ll lose 75 percent of the remaining species on earth.

There are many principles and values all people live by. The 41 that I live by is honesty. I have always been taught that lying will just get me into more trouble than I might already be 42 . Being honest is a 43 all people need to have and use to go 44 in life.
Ever since I was a little kid, my parents have 45 me to be honest 46 it is the right thing to do. As I got 47 , I realized something very important that could 48 the way people take me to be a person. If just once you stop being honest and tell a lie it will 49 change people’s opinion of you and their whole way of acting 50 you. When you tell a lie you lose that person’s 51 forever or have to work your whole life to get it back.
It is my personal 52 to achieve great things in life and honesty will sure help me get there. For me right now losing somebody’s trust would be a truly 53 thing. Whatever you do for a living or 54 you live, honesty is something important for all of us.
Honesty gets you much higher in life than getting into more 55 like lying would. Lying can 56 get you into trouble dealing with the government. Honesty is just as important to me as my family. Already, I know it is something that will 57 my future and my relationship with all people. It is something about myself that I hope to never 58 no matter what happens. Most of all honesty will help me no matter whether I’m at school, home or just 59 with friends. It is something 60 I hope my children will also have and appreciate.

Happiness is what everyone looks for. 41 someone says that he is happy. However, 42 makes him happy may not work for others. And even 43 , someone may spend all his life looking for happiness, but in vain.
In the past, I tried my best to make myself happy. I thought if I could 44 get and do what I wanted to, I would be happy. Certainly, it was 45 , but I was disappointed. Though I could be happy at 46 , I couldn’t keep my happiness for a long time. Why?
One day, when I told a friend of mine what I 47 about happiness, he smiled and said only a few words “Happiness is not a 48 thing but a by-product ( 副产品). ”
I was surprised, but he was really 49 . Someone thinks money can 50 everything, but when he becomes a millionaire after his hard work, perhaps he will find that he has new 51 . And he has to go to church for 52 . Sometimes love can bring happiness, but at other times it 53 misunderstanding, tiredness and even quarrelling.
Happiness is only a by-product of all 54 of things you love to do. You can not 55 it in a straight way. That is, it is not a thing 56 in the material form but in your senses.
You should tell yourself, “I do not 57 whether I am happy or not. But I must love 58 ”. And one day you will 59 find happiness itself has quietly 60 .

Accomplishment is often deceptive (导致误解的) because we don’t see the pain and perseverance that produced it. So we may credit the __36__ with brains or lucky break, and let ourselves off the hook(为自己开脱) because we 37 in both two. Not that we could all be concert pianists just by exercising enough discipline. ___38___, each of us has the makings of success in some effort, but we will achieve this only if we ___39___ our wills and work at it.
How can we acquire stick-to-itiveness? There is no simple, fast ___40___. But I have developed a way of thinking that has 41 my own weak will more than once. Here are the basic elements:
“Won’t” power. This is as important as will power. Discipline means choices. Every time you say yes to a goal or objective, you say no to many more. Every prize has its ___42___. The prize is the yes; the price is the no. Igor Gorin, the noted Ukrainian-American baritone(男中音), told of his early days studying ___43___. He loved to smoke a pipe, but one day his professor said, “Igor, you will have to made up your mind ___44___ you are going to be a great singer, or a great pipe smoker. You cannot be both.” ___45___, the pipe went.
Delayed gratification (喜悦). M. Scott Peck, M.D., author of the best-seller The Road less Traveled, ___46___ this tool of discipline as “a process of ___47___ the pain and pleasure of life in such a way as to enhance the ___48___ by meeting and experiencing the pain first and ___49___ it over with.”
This might ___50___ routine daily decisions—something as ___51___ as skipping a favorite late-night TV show and getting to bed early, to be wide awake for a meeting the next morning. Or it might involve longer-term ___52___.
The secret of such commitment is getting past the pain and seeing the delight. “The fact is that many ___53___ efforts aren’t fun,” says one radio and TV commentator. “True, all work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy. But trying to turn everything we do into ___54___ makes for terrible frustrations, because life—even the most rewarding one—includes circumstances that aren’t ___55___ at all. I like my job as a journalist. It’s personally satisfying, but it isn’t always joyful.”

Compassion(同情心)is a desire within us to help others. With effort, we can translate compassion into 41 . An experience last weekend showed me this is 42 . Just then, another man, standing behind the first, spoke up. “If anything”, he looked more pitiable. “ 56 it to me.” was all he said.
What I had been feeling was pity. Pity is soft and easy. Compassion, 57 , is caring in action. I 58 the second man but told him that was not 59 either. Then I reached into my pocket and paid for the biscuits myself. I reached into my pocket 60 these two men had reached into my heart and taught me compassion.

When we are unfamiliar with something, we may feel nervous and fearful. The help of others is a good 41 to help us pull through.

The line was to pull my parachute 54 after I jumped.
“Get 55 , Henry,” Harry said. I moved carefully to the door. I wanted to 56 , “NO, no, no!” But no word came.
“Jump!” Harry called 57 . “Jump!”

When you say that someone has a good memory, what exactly do you mean? Are you saying that the person has fast recall or that he or she __51__ information quickly? Or maybe you just mean that the person remembers a lot about her or his childhood. The truth is that it is __52__ to say exactly what memory is. Even scientists who have been studying memory for decades say they are still trying to __53__ exactly what it is. We do know that a particular memory is not just one thing stored somewhere in the brain. __54__, a memory is made up of bits and pieces of information stored all over the brain. Perhaps the best way to __55__ memory is to say that it is a process — a process of recording, storing, and getting back information. Practice and repetition can help to __56__ the pieces that make up our memory of that information.
Memory can be __57__ affected by a number of things. __58__ nutrition can affect a person’s capability of storing information. Excessive alcohol use can also weaken memory and cause permanent __59__ to the brain over the long term. A vision or hearing problem may affect a person’s power to notice certain things, thus making it __60__ to register information in the brain.
When people talk about memory, they often __61__ short-term memory and long-term memory. If you want to call a store or an office that you don’t call often, you look in the telephone book for the number. You dial the number, and then you forget it! You use your short-term memory to remember the number. Your short-term memory lasts about 30 seconds, or half a minute. __62__, you don’t need to look in the telephone book for your best friend’s number, because you already know it. This number is in your long-term memory, which __63__ information about things you have learned and experienced through the years.
Why do you forget things sometimes? The major reason for forgetting something is that you did not learn it well enough __64__. For example, if you meet some new people and right away forget their names, it is because you did not __65__ the names at the first few seconds when you heard them.

If life were a book and you were the author, how would you like the story to go? That is the
question that 21 my life forever.
One day I went home from the training of snowboarding with what I thought was the flu, and
less than 24 hours later, I was in a 22 on life support with less than two percent 23 of
living. It wasn’t until days later that the doctors diagnosed me with a 24 blood infection. Over
the 25 of 2.5 months, I lost the hearing in my left ear and both my legs below the knee.
When my parents 26 me out of the hospital, I 27 that I had been put together like a
patchwork (拼缝物)doll and I had to live with 28 legs. I was absolutely physically and
emotionally broken, 29 streaming down.
But I knew in order to move forward, I had to let go of the Old Amy and 30 the New Amy.
It was at this moment that I asked myself that significant 31 . And that is when it 32 my
mind that I didn’t have to be five-foot-five anymore. 33 I could be as tall as I wanted. And
34 of all, I can make my feet the size of all the shoes. So there were 35 here.
Four months later, I was back upon a 36 . And this February, I won two Board World Cup
gold medals, 37 me the highest ranked snowboarder in the world.
So, instead of looking at our 38 and our limitations as something 39 or bad, we can
begin looking at them as a wonderful 40 that can be used to help us go further than we ever
know we could go.

When I look back at my decision to be a working mom, I realize that I didn’t think I had any other choice. Hubby and I had been a two-income family 36 the time we were married. It didn’t occur to me that we would be anything else though it’s hardly news that the choice has its 37 .
Hubby traveled a lot when our kids were young, and I often was a weekday single mom. I had an understanding boss, who allowed me to work a(n) 38 schedule for about 12 years. My 32-hour work week provided the chance to 39 in my kids’ kindergarten classrooms.
