Let us all go out for food safety
It is frequently reported that poisonous food causes deaths, so food safety had been drawing the public’s great attention.
Food problems mainly lie in the two factors. On the one hand, some food producers lack social conscience. Centering on money, they produce lots of fake and junk food; On the other hand, other producers are short of common sense on food safety, thus poison and addictive abuse pollutes food.
For the sake of health, we must take food safety seriously. Firstly, food producers shall pay more attention to food quality, and they are required to care about food safety as well as profits; Secondly, food supervisors shall operate strict food standards and punish the ill producers severely; Lastly, consumers had better go to regular markets to choose green food.
As we have seen, the focus of medical care in our society has been shifting from curing disease to preventing disease – especially in terms of changing our many unhealthy behaviors, such as poor eating habits, smoking, and failure to exercise. The line of thought involved in this shift can be pursued further. Imagine a person who is about the right weight, but does not eat very nutritious foods, who feels OK but exercises only occasionally, who goes to work every day, but is not an outstanding worker, who drinks a few beers at home most nights but does not drive while drunk, and who has no chest pains or abnormal blood counts, but sleeps a lot and often feels tired. This person is not ill. He may not even be at risk for any particular disease. But we can imagine that this person could be a lot healthier.
The field of medicine has not traditionally distinguished between someone who is merely “not ill” and someone who is in excellent health and pays attention to the body’s special needs. Both types have simply been called “well”. In recent years, however, some health specialists have begun to apply the terms “well” and “wellness” only to those who are actively striving to maintain and improve their health. People who are well are concerned with nutrition and exercise and they make a point of monitoring their body’s condition. Most important, perhaps, people who are well take active responsibility for all matters related to their health. Even people who have a physical disease or handicap may be “well,” in this new sense, if they make an effort to maintain the best possible health they can in the face of their physical limitations. “Wellness” may perhaps best be viewed not as a state that people can achieve, but as an ideal that people can strive for. People who are well are likely to be better able to resist disease and to fight disease when it strikes. And by focusing attention on healthy ways of living, the concept of wellness can have a beneficial impact on the ways in which people face the challenges of daily life.

On the Olympic flag, the rings appear on a white background. The flag reinforces the idea of the Olympic Movement’s universality, as it brings together all the countries of the world.
Pierre de Coubertin, the father of the modern Olympic Games, explains the meaning of the flag: “The Olympic flag has a white background, with five interlaced rings in the centre: blue, yellow, black, green and red. This design is symbolic; it represents the five continents of the world, united by Olympism, while the six colors are those that appear on all the national flags of the world at the present time.” (1931)
Combined in this way, the six colors of the flag(including the white of the background) represent all nations. It is wrong, therefore, to believe that each of the colors corresponds to a
certain continent!
At the Olympic Games, the flag is brought into the stadium during the opening ceremony. Since the 1960 Games in Rome (Italy), it has been carried horizontally by a delegation of athletes or other people well known for their positive work in society.
After its arrival, the flag is hoisted up the flagpole. It must fly in the stadium during the whole of the Games. When the flag is lowered at the closing ceremony, it signals the end of the Games.
The mayor of the host city of the Games passes the Olympic flag to the mayor of the next host city of the Games.
In the history, even though Pierre de Coubertin intended the Olympic Games to be an international event from the time of their re-establishment in 1896 in Athens (Greece), it was only at the 1912 Games in Stockholm (Sweden) that, for the first time, the participants came from all five continents. One year later, in 1913, the five rings appeared at the top of a letter written by Pierre de Coubertin. He drew the rings and colored them in by hand. He then described this symbol in the Olympic Review of August 1913. It was also Coubertin who had the idea for the Olympic flag. He presented the rings and flag in June 1914 in Paris at the Olympic Congress.
The First World War prevented the Games from being celebrated in 1916 in Berlin (Germany) as planned. It was not until 1920 in Antwerp (Belgium) that the flag and its five rings could be seen flying in an Olympic stadium.
The universality conveyed by the rings and the flag was a new idea at the beginning of the 20th century. Nationalism was very strong and tension between certain countries was high. It was in this climate, however, that Coubertin proposed a symbol which aimed to encourage world unity.

LONDON — Britain awoke on Easter Monday to a period of mourning for the Queen Mother, who died over the weekend after a life spanning a century of noisy and evident change. The 101-year-old royal matriarch died in her sleep last Saturday with Queen Elizabeth, her elder and only surviving daughter, at her bedside. For a woman who was one of the best-known figures in Britain for more than 80 years - from the time of colored portraits on tin biscuit boxes and cigarette cards to the age of the Internet, the Queen Mother remained an mysterious figure that is difficult to capture.
She achieved such a respect through immeasurable long time of, first, flattering and, later, intrusive media fascination, by remaining almost entirely silent. Her private thoughts were never showed off in public. What the public saw was a charming and kind elderly lady, expert at winning the admiration of press photographers, whom she always favored with a particular smile.
XINHUA(2007-10-29 06:51)—China’s lunar probe Chang’e I is expected to arrive at the apogee(远地点)of more than 120,000 kilometers from the earth on Monday afternoon after its third orbital transfer after launch, according to the moon probe team.

More and more TV shows, movies and sporting events are being broadcast in High Definition (HD) -including “Good Morning America.” If you want to join the millions who are already experiencing a superior picture, you’ll need a High Definition TV (HDTV). But even if you’re ready to retire your old TV-or move it into the back bedroom where no one will ever see it-you’re bound to have lots of questions before you make an investment in a new drool-worthy HDTV.
You might be wondering about hardware, cost and how to actually receive High Definition programming on your set. “GMA” technology contributor Becky Worley offers this instruction to understanding the complicated world of HD.
What is HDTV ①?
High definition TV is a richer transmission of television signals that makes for a more vivid viewing experience. HDTV is to standard TV what FM radio is to AM radio. HDTV is crisp, clear and noise-free, with resolution that is at least twice that of analog (模拟信号)television and CD-quality sound.
How Do I Get HDTV ②?
HDTV signals are broadcast via antennas (天线)in urban areas, and via satellite TV or cable TV.
To receive an over-the air HDTV signal, you must live within a certain radius(半径)of an HDTV broadcast antenna and have the proper HDTV tuner (调谐器) or antenna installed in your home.
To receive a Cable or Satellite HDTV signal, you must have a proprietary (专利的)HDTV set-top box supplied by your provider.
Not all programming is available in HDTV yet, but many network shows and sporting events are currently in HD and many more are converting over.
When you watch a DVD on your HDTV, it is not technically HDTV quality, but it will look crisper on your HDTV than on a regular TV.
There are three major terms that will describe the high-end TV sets that are on sale today :HDTV ③ are TV sets that can receive and process over-the-air HD signals. You may need an antenna to receive the HD signal, but an HD tuner is built into the set and can process the signal without any other equipment. If you want to receive an HD signal from your cable or satellite provider, you will need one of the provider’s proprietary set-top boxes.
HD-Ready TV are TV sets that need an additional piece of hardware to actually receive the HD signal, such as a stand-alone HD tuner (from $250 and up) or the set-top HDTV box provided by your cable or satellite TV company.
EDTV stands for Enhanced Digital Television. The visual quality of an EDTV is better than a standard analog TV, but is not as crisp or bright as a true HDTV.
1.Which of the following best describe the features of HDTV?
A.It offers programs with clearer pictures and sound of better quality.
B.It offers more interesting and entertaining programs.
C.It offers more TV channels and choices of programs.
D.It offers program for high technology
2.“HDTV is to standard TV what FM radio is to AM radio.” in this passage is .
A.an example to show HDTV is different from common TV.
B.an example to show the similarity between HDTV and FM radio.
C.a comparison to show HDTV is more advanced than common TV.
D.a comparison to show HDTV is better than FM radio.
3.As for the meaning of “HDTV” in different places (①②③) of this article, which of the following statement is TRUE?
A.①and ③carry the same meaning while ②carries different meaning.
B.①and ②carry the same meaning while ③carries different meaning.
C.②and ③carry the same meaning while ①carries different meaning.
D.①, ②and ③all carry the same meaning.
4.If you want to receive HDTV program at home, you should have .
