One cold December morning, I boarded a bus with my four large bags. I was headed home to Rampur. After a few hours a well-dressed young man got in and sat next to me. I was cautious. I’d often come across men eager to chat up a girl traveling on her own. So I wasn’t surprised when he spoke up.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

“Rampur,” I replied and put on my earphones. He didn’t bother me after that.

It started to rain and water was dripping through the roof on to my lap. Seeing that, the man emptied a plastic bag full of clothes, which he pushed into his travel bag. He then handed me the bag. I accepted it with a sheepish “thanks” before spreading it on my lap.

Minutes later, the bus broke down! All the passengers had to get off and stood on the road, ready to rush into the next bus. The conductor unwillingly helped me offload my luggage.

When the bus finally arrived, it had many passengers already. The crowd struggled to get in and I was pushed aside. As I stood there feeling very upset, I saw a hand waving out to me. It was the same young man. He stood there blocking the doorway. I passed my bags to him and he placed them inside one by one, as if we were family traveling together. He then gently helped me in. Two hours later, as we approached Rampur, I turned to look for him. However, he was not there. He must have got off at an earlier stop without letting me know. Why would he? He’d done what he had to. I was the one who couldn’t apologize for my attitude or thank him.

bMovie fans around the world gathered around their living rooms to watch The 88th Academy Awards, televised live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 28, 2016 beginning at 5:30 PM PT / 8:30PM ET on ABC. And, did we mention that Leonardo DiCaprio, who won his first Oscar ever for Best Actor for his role in The Revenant《荒野猎人》 after so many years of struggle? It actually happened this year.

The Revenant is a cruel tale about survival and revenge (复仇). In the 1820s, Europeans flooded into the New World in search of raw materials and precious goods, like animal fur, which disturbed North America’s ecological balance and triggered a resisting struggle among the Native Americans.

The film tells the story of Hugh Glass, a fur trapper played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who is badly injured in a violent bear attack when going hunting with his fellow trappers. He decides to take revenge on his fellows who left him for dead. Unlike his fellows, who go after economic gain by any means necessary, Glass is described as respectful to the Native Americans. He represents some of the invaders who were less greedy and inhumane.

People often say that compared with nature, man is unimportant. Yet the film describes human kind’s life force under unbearable conditions. Glass survived a frozen river, gunfire, and a bear attack. Just as the line on the movie poster says, he’s “one who has returned, as if from the dead.” At the beginning of the film, Glass says to his son, “As long as you can still grab a breath, you fight. You breathe... Keep breathing.” That’s the essence of this survival story.

 C. What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger.

 B. Time tells everything.

Look back through history at all the famous and distinguished persons. Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, etc., all had one thing in common: they were all extremely curious about the world around them. This natural quality of theirs was what improved them from average personalities to true geniuses.

Curiosity will have you asking questions always. You will go hunting for the answers and won’t rest until you find them. The end result is that, you will learn a lot, and keep on adding to your knowledge throughout your life. No wonder then that, naturally curious people are often the most knowledgeable ones around.

As students, we sometimes have trouble remembering the information that we have read when we are studying.   36   So the following tips can help you improve study skills so that you can get good grades in the exams.

37   Otherwise, your attention may focus on what you’re hearing instead of what you are reading.

Don’t study in bed.  38   If you’re in bed, you may fall asleep. Setting aside a special space for your schoolwork is best. If you don’t have a place that can be used only for studying then using the same space in your home ( the dining room table, for example) each time you sit down to study will help you get into a good routine.

Summarize what you have read. One of the best ways to prepare for an exam is being able to summarize what you read using short and objective phrases.  39

Physical exercise is important. Exercise for at least 3 hours a week.  40   It is a great way to improve your mental function and overall productivity.

Study groups or brief discussions of the material with your classmates will also help strengthen what you’ve learned. Good luck on your next exam!

A.     Study for an hour and a half.

B.     It is very useful for your study.

C.     It improves your health.

D.     This can cause students to receive bad grades.

E.      Avoid listening to music or the television while you study.

F.      You need to be attentive when preparing for your exams.

G.     Look up any word you don’t know and make sure you understand its meaning.
