How much of your stress, disappointment, anger or worry comes from one little thing? Almost all of it comes from your expectations(期望), and from wishing things were different. We build these expectations in our heads of what other people should do, what our lives should be like ... 36 And when reality doesn’t meet our fantasy (想像), we wish the world were different.
Here’s a simple solution: Picture all the expectations you have for yourself, your life, your kids, your job and the world. 37 A river or lake will also do. What happens to them? They’re carried around by waves. They float away. Let them be washed away by the clean waters, and let them go. Now live your life without them.
38 It means you accept reality as it is, and people as they are. Without expectations, you see things as they are. 39 Or if you are, you accept it, and then let it go.
That’s not to say you never act. You can act in a way that agrees with your values, but never have an expectation of how the world will react to your actions. 40 Do good because you love doing good, and expect nothing beyond that.
Let the waters of the world clean us, and let us walk lightly in a world that is wonderful without our fantasies.
A. And yet it’s not real; it’s all fantasy.
B. What’s a life without expectations like?
C. Don’t beat yourself up if you have expectations.
D. If you do something good, you won’t expect praise.
E. Take them from you, and throw them into the ocean.
F. When things don’t turn out as we expect, we’ll get angry.
G. It’s a life where you don’t need to be disappointed or angry.

Were you the first or the last child in your family? Or were you a middle or an only child? Some people think 61 matters where you were born in your family. But there are different ideas about what birth order means. Some people say that oldest children, 62 are smart and strong-willed(意志坚强的), are very likely 63 (succeed). The reason 64 this is simple. Parents have a lot of time for their first child and give him or her a lot of attention. An only child will succeed for 65 same reason.
What happens to the 66 children in the family? Middle children don’t get so much attention, so they don’t feel that important. If a family has many children, the middle one sometimes gets lost in the crowd. The youngest child, 67 , often gets special treatment. Often this child grows up to be funny. But a recent study saw things quite 68 (difference). The study found that first children believed in family rules. They didn’t take many chances in 69 lives. They usually 70 (follow) orders. Rules didn’t mean as much to later children in the family. They took chances and they often did better in life.

I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my job stand in the way of being a good parent.
I no longer consider myself as the center of the universe. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows(誓言) mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends, and they to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today.
So here’s what I want to tell you today : Get a life. A real life, not a desire of the next promotion , the bigger paycheck, or the larger house.
Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure , it is work. Pick up the phone. Send an e-mail. Write a letter. And realize that life is the best thing and that you have no business taking it for granted.
It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours, and our minutes. It is so easy to exist instead of to live. I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life in ways, that, if I had had my choice, it would never have been changed at all. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all.
I learned to love the journey, not the destination. I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned .
By telling them this: Read in the backyard with the sun on your face. Learn to be happy. And think of life as a deadly illness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion as it ought to be lived.
