A great teacher is someone who has a passion (激情) for teaching. My 1st grade teacher taught as long as she could until cancer took her. She took the time to teach us all and to make sure none of us were left behind. She loved to teach and she loved every single one of us.

A great teacher is one who is willing to teach even when the school has no money to pay them to do so. The school I graduated from is such a school. All the teachers went several months without pay because they believed God had called them to teach at this school.

Last week I visited my friend Pete in the new home where he lives with his wife and daughter. Pete used to spend his holidays travelling the world, visiting the pyramids in Egypt or scuba diving(潜水) in the Caribbean. Nowadays he prefers to spend his holidays and weekends making his house look more beautiful. Like hundreds of thousands of other British people, he has discovered the joy of DIY (Do It Yourself), which means if there are any things that need fixing around the house, he will try to do the job himself.
As he showed me the new kitchen he put together by himself and the newly painted walls, I asked Pete where he got his inspiration (灵感) from. He told me that his favorite source of ideas was a DIY program on TV.
This got me thinking about the great popularity of DIY programs in the UK. Each major channel has at least one home or garden improving show and there’s even a satellite channel completely about the subject.
I guess it is not really surprising that DIY programs are so popular. Two common sayings in Britain- ‘an Englishman’s home is his castle’ and ‘there’s no place like home’-show how important our houses are to us. With the present economic downturn, many people can’t afford to buy a bigger house so they are looking at how they can make their house better without spending a lot of money. DIY is the perfect choice.
But be careful! I read a report that said over 230,000 people were injured while doing home improvements in the UK in just one year, including 41,000 who fell off ladders(梯子) and 5,800 who were seriously hurt by hammers. So I won’t be going down to the hardware store.
28. How did Pete spend his holiday in the past?
A. Visiting his friends. B. Diving.
C. Travelling around the world. D. Making his house beautiful.
29. Which might NOT be shown in a DIY program on TV?
A. Scuba diving B. A garden improving feature.
C. Home improvements. D. Fixing things in kitchens
30. Which is NOT the reason why DIY is popular among British people?
A. They enjoy DIY.
B. They want to make their houses better themselves.
C. They can improve their houses without spending much money.
D. They want to be on TV.
31. At the end of the article the writer wants us to remember _____.
A. not to go to the hardware store
B. to be careful not to get hurt while doing DIY
C. to keep watching DIY on TV while drinking a nice cup of tea
D. not to climb ladders or use hammers

“Drink your milk. It’s good for you!” You’ve probably heard that many times, and it’s true. Milk contains calcium (Ca), which is a necessary nutrient(营养) for keeping bones and teeth healthy and strong. The U.S. government even requires milk as part of the National School Lunch Program, saying that students should drink one cup of fat-free or low-fat milk at each meal.
Last Thursday, however, a group of doctors asked the government to take milk out of the lunch program. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) says, “Milk is high in sugar, high in fat and high in animal protein, all of which have unhealthy effects on health.” “One of the only reasons people talk about milk products, or promote it is that it is going to help build strong bones.” says Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the PCRM. There are better and healthier ways to get calcium such as eating beans, broccoli, cereals and tofu. Orange juice and soymilk that have calcium added to them also provide the nutrient.
Of course, calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth, but your genes, how much vitamin you take in and getting an hour’s worth of exercise every day all play a part.
Some nutritionists disagree with the idea that milk isn’t important. Keri Gans, a dietitian, says, “I think it’s irresponsible to take away milk that children enjoy, especially among those who are unable to meet their nutrient needs for the day, and remove it from the lunch line.”
The U.S. government is studying the request of the PCRM, but a decision may be a long way off. Meanwhile, Marion Nestle, a professor at New York University, puts it best: “Milk has nutrients. Other foods have the same nutrients. It’s just a food. Like other foods, too much might be a problem.”
32.Why does the US government ask students to drink one cup of milk at lunch time?
A. Milk helps build students’ strong bones.
B.They have taken the PCRM’s advice.
C.They have been told many times.
D.Fat-free or low-fat milk is less expensive.
33.Which of the following opinions does the PCRM support?
A.Students should drink more milk each day.
B.Milk is the best way to get calcium.
C.Orange juice is higher in calcium than milk.
D.Milk is not so healthy for students’ health.
34.What can we learn from Marion Nestle’s words?
A.Milk has more nutrients than other food.
B. Milk is just a kind of common food.
C.Other food also contains much calcium.
D.Too much nutrient lies in other food.
35.What does the above text mainly talk about?
A.The best way to get the most calcium.
B.The connection between milk and health.
C.Different opinions about the importance of milk.
D.Whether to take milk off the school-lunch menu.

After spending a weekend away with my adult son, I was so impressed by his kind heart that I sent him this letter.
Dear son,
I want to 41 you for teaching me a very valuable lesson in life by the great example you 42 . When we were eating at that café in Bondi and a person who had 43 his hamburger didn’t have enough money to pay for it, without any 44 , you went over and put the extra $2 into his 45 .
When we were leaving, you 46 threw a five-cent coin onto the pavement(人行道) and said 47 like, “Some kid will really enjoy 48 this.”
Last week, a young man 49 me in the line at a gas station didn’t have 50 money to pay for his oil. I asked the money collector, “How much 51 is he?” She told me the young man had meant to put $15 of oil in his car 52 he had been looking at the wrong gauge(计量表) and had put in 15 53 , which came to just over 54 . That is an easy mistake 55 both gauges run so fast.
Something made me think of you and 56 you did that night at the café in Bondi. I handed the man $6. He was so 57 and said, “But why would you do this for me?” I just smiled as I thought of you.
Thank you, son, for teaching me that “it’s 58 to give than receive”. Now when I see a five-cent coin on the 59 and want to pick it up, I think of you and leave it 60 , hoping some kid will like finding it.
Love always, Mum
