Welcome to Wonderful Museum. This month we are having a special display about old machines from different countries. You can find the ways machines were used to help people one hundred years ago. How did the Germans make their first cars？How did our grandfathers use their farming tools? When did the Americans try to make their planes？And when did the Spanish make comfortable shoes in their factories？You will find the answers. After this visit of the machine history, enjoy some coffee by our wonderful coffee-making machines in Yarn’s Café in the corner of this floor.

    Water is very important to living things. Without water there can be no life on the earth. All animals and plants need water. Man also needs water. We need water to drink, to cook our food and to clean ourselves. Water is needed in offices, factories and schools. Water is needed everywhere.
     There is water in seas, rivers and lakes. Water is found almost everywhere. Even in the desert part of the world, there is some water in the air. You can not see or feel it when it is a part of the air. The water in the seas, rivers and lakes is a liquid, the water in the air is a gas, and we call it water vapour (蒸气).
      Clouds are made of water. They may be made of very small drops of water. They may also be made of snow crystals(结晶体). Snow crystals are very small crystals of ice. Ice is frozen water. It is a solid. There can be snow and ice everywhere in winter.
      Water may be a solid or a liquid or a gas. When it is a solid, it may be as hard as a stone. When it is a liquid, you can drink it. When it is a gas, you can not see or feel it.

Lao Yang was born in a small town. He liked reading when he studied at school. He thought the writers   were respected and could get a lot of money. He wrote a lot of stories and posted them to the editorial departments (编辑部) but didn’t receive any answers.

Now he works in a factory. He’s busy at work. When he’s free, he always reads something. He always remembers he hoped to be a writer when he was young. One day, Xiao Ping, his ten-year-old daughter,    came back. She looked worried and didn’t eat anything. She said Miss Gao, her Chinese teacher, told them  to write a solicit article(征文) “My Father” that evening. But she did not know what to write.

    Computers are very important to modern life. Many people think that in the future computers will be used in lots of everyday life. It is thought that we won’t have to go shopping because we will be able to get most things which are sold in shops on the Internet. There will be no more books because we will be able to get all texts from computers. The Internet will be used to play games, see films and buy food. Most telephone calls will be made by computers, too.
    Some people are glad about these new ways of shopping and communicating. Others do not think that computers will replace our old ways.
    Let’s look at books, for example. Some people think that one day we will not read books made of paper. Instead, we will buy and read books using computers. We will read texts on small pocket computers. The computers will keep many different books in them at the same time. We won’t need to turn lots of pages and paper will be saved.     Is Internet shopping such a pleasure as going to the shop? Many people say it is not. It is a pleasure to go in to shops and look at things you want to buy. It is also unlikely that many people will want to read large texts on our computers. Because paper books will perhaps be more friendly. Maybe computers won’t change these two habits.

How to make friends at a new school

Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be different, and you don't even know where to go for your own classes.  36  However, if you use these skills, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.

Be yourself.

 37  If some people don't accept you, they're not the kind of friends you need. People often stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sport may make friends with those who also run or swim a lot.

Remember to be nice to the people you meet at your new school. If you think that you will say something that may make them feel sad, do not say anything and just nod your head if they talk to you. Also, remember to be as helpful as possible!

Believe in yourself.

A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don't keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact (目光接触) with other people.  39   Introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you're from.

Remember people’s names.

You like it when people use your name, and so do other people.  40  Besides, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname (昵称). You'd be surprised how often this might come in handy.
