From the first week of high school, my best friend, Trisha, was always going out with the popular girls. 41 I thought, “It’s okay; she’s just making new friends.” But soon I realized that Trisha wasn’t interested in me anymore. I’d 42 my best friend. It really hurt.
One day, I told Trisha that we should 43 pretending (假装) to be friends when we really weren’t anymore. I wasn’t trying to make her mad 44 she was. After that, Trisha started talking about me behind my back, telling people that I was 45 . Some of our friends 46 with her. I felt like she was taking them away from me.
The more I thought about it, the 47 I got. Finally, I 48 a picture of Trisha and drew lines on her face. I wrote, “I 49 this person” across the bottom. And then I did something I’ll always 50 : I put it on a website I thought was 51 . I thought people would see it, and it felt good to vent (发泄).
A week later, Trisha’s mom saw the 52 . She called my mom, who made me take it off the website right away. However, it was already too 53 . Lots of people had seen it, and I was in a lot of 54 .
That whole day, I felt 55 . I had to say sorry to Trisha face to face. She said she accepted my apology (道歉), but I felt she was 56 angry with me.
Posting that picture was one of the worst 57 I’ve ever made. I realize now I could have found a much better way to deal with my 58 . If I’d just told Trisha how much I 59 her, maybe things would have turned out 60 . It’s too late for me to change things, but I hope you’ll learn from my mistake.

Al-Azhar University
Going to a university is an important part of a person’s life. Today, many people go to a university to study and train for a future job in subjects like law, medicine, or education. 36 An important one started in Egypt over one thousand years ago.
The world’s oldest surviving (幸存的) university, Al-Azhar, is in Cairo, Egypt. It was first built as a mosque (清真寺) in A.D. 972. A few years later, learners and teachers began meeting in the mosque. They read and talked about the subjects of religion (宗教) and law. 37 Leaders in the city of Cairo decided to create a school for higher learning and soon after that, Al-Azhar University was started.
38 For these teachers at Al-Azhar, they needed to think about what courses to teach and how to teach them. The earliest courses were in law and religion. In a course, students read and studied with the teacher, but there was also free discussion. Often, students and teachers had interesting discussions, and there was no “correct” answer. In the years that followed, the new university interested scholars (学者) from around the world. 39 At Al-Azhar, people studied the past, but it was also a place for sharing new ideas.
Over a thousand years later, Al-Azhar is still an important university in the world. 40 Today, many of the world’s most important universities such as Oxford and Harvard still follow the same traditions as they do at Al-Azhar.
