Recently,e-book sales are falling while sales of paper books are growing—and it is mainly because of the younger people.
More than 360 million books were sold in the UK in 2016—a 2% jump in a year that saw UK buyers spend an extra 6% on books in print and e-book formats, according to findings by the research group Nielsen in its books and consumer survey this year.
While sales through bookshops increased 7% in 2016,e-book sales fell down by 4%,Nielsen’s survey showed the increase in print sales was because of children's novels and the younger who like paper books more than e-readers.
A 2013 survey found that 62% of 16-to-24-year-olds liked print books more than e-books.
The most popular reason was: “I like to hold the product.” While Nielsen found that 50% of all fiction sales were in e-book format, only 4% of children’s fiction was digital (数字).
“We are seeing that books are a kind of respite in some way, particularly for young people who are so busy and tired with reading digital products,” said Steve Bohme, research director at Nielsen Book Research UK. The Nielsen survey contained another first: mobile phones and computers are more common device than e-readers to read e-books,since readers like multifunctional devices (多功能设备) more than some e-reader brands such as Kindle and Nook.
