During the 1 9th centuryscientists thought that every part of the brain does a different jobBut modern research has found this is not sofor it is not easy to say exactly what every part of the brain doesIn the past fifty years there has been a great increase in the amount of research done on the brainScientists have discovered that the way the brain works is not as simple as people may thinkChemists tell us that 1 00000 chemical changes take place in the brain e very secondSome recent research also suggests that we can remember everything that happens to usWe may not be able to think back on the things we've heard and seenbut it is all kept there in the storehouse of the human mind

Earlier scientists thought that the power of one's brain got weaker and weaker as one grew olderBut it is now thought that it is not trueAs long as the brain is given plenty of exercise it keeps its powerIt has been proved that an old person who has always been active in the mind has a quicker mind than a young person who has only done physical work without using much of his brainIt is now thought that the more work we give our brainsthe more work they are able to do
